Leo Elwood Allen was born in Elizabeth, Illinois, on October 5, 1898, to Arthur Alphonso and Sarah (Steinberger) Allen. With his three sisters and his brother he was reared in Galena, Jo Daviess County, in his native State. He married Gladys Dahl on May 30, 1924 He was a United States government official; lawyer; Republican member from Illinois of the House of Representatives (1933-61); chairman of the powerful Rules Committee (1947-49 and 1953-55); He died 19 January 1973.
